Hero_Wayta.png
COMMANDER: WAYTA, TRAINER PRODIGY

FIght Club

An enrage deck that wins by surviving the damage everyone else fears, converting board wipes and pings into engines instead of setbacks.

Krav and Regna energetic love mtg decklist
COMMANDER: KRAV & REGNA

An Energetic Love

This brew uses familiar Orzhov patterns as cover while quietly building something stranger underneath: an energy engine, powered by tiny life-gain triggers, recursive fodder, and sacrifice loops.

Dina, Essence Brewer Deck Tech - The Volatility Engine: Weaponizing Your Life Total | Commander Labs
COMMANDER: DINA, ESSENCE BREWER

The Volatility Engine: Weaponizing Your Life Total

This isn’t a typical lifegain or aristocrats build. Instead, it treats your life total as a resource—spending it aggressively to generate cards, mana, and overwhelming advantage.

Zedruu the Greathearted political control deck tech
COMMANDER: ZEDRUU THE GREATHEARTED

A Gift You Can't Refuse

This is not a bad Santa deck. It’s a benevolent benefactor—right up until it isn’t.

The Master, Mesmerist Commander deck political control engine using clones and goad
COMMANDER: THE MASTER, MESMERIST

Objects in Mirror are Closer Than They Appear

This deck turns skulk, goad, and clones into a web of manipulation: you rarely appear as a threat, and your opponents do all the heavy lifting for you.

Azusa, Lost but Seeking Commander deck land recursion engine board state
COMMANDER: AZUSA, LOST BUT SEEKING

The Land Remembers

Lean into Azusa’s ability by turning fetch lands, sacrifice lands, and self-mill into a looping resource engine that scales with incredible speed and explosive power.

ABOUT

Commander Labs

We are an independent, curated publication of unique Commander deck techs and creative EDH brews. Commander Labs is ad-free and reader-supported.

Commander is at its best when every deck at the table tells a different story.

At least, that’s the version of the format we care about.

But over time, Commander deckbuilding has begun to converge—optimized staples, repeatable engines, and familiar lines of play started showing up everywhere. Even when commanders changed, the experience often didn’t.

We didn’t want to abandon Commander. We wanted to look at it differently.

Commander Labs is a curated publication of deck tech essays that treat Commander decks as designed experiences, not just lists of cards. Each featured brew is selected, studied, and written about in depth, with an emphasis on how the deck actually feels to pilot and play against.

These are interpretive pieces about what happens when a deck expresses a clear idea at the table. Here you’ll find decks that:

  • Shape how the table behaves rather than simply responding to it

  • Win from lines that are not immediately obvious

  • Prioritize identity, structure, and play experience over convention

Not jank. Not chaos for its own sake. These are coherent strategies built around unusual assumptions.

Commander Labs publishes only a small number of deck features each month. Every piece is selected for clarity of idea, depth of play pattern, and coherence of execution.

The goal is simple: to document Commander decks that are worth understanding, not just copying.

Not the strongest decks.
Not the strangest decks.

But the ones with something to say.

Your contribution helps fund writing, art, and future features.
